Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans
(Full image at left, with details at right)
2014
Digital
23" x 43"

"Sunrise" has long been one of my favorite films -- as well as a giant of the silent film era. I wanted to give it the "epic" poster it never had. It was also an experiment in dealing with a new digital form of image manipulation, as I tried to give it a silkscreen / woodcut effect, using a palette of only nine colors for a nostalgic feel.

Gateway to NIMH

Gateway to NIMH
2001
Acrylics & colored pencil on paper.
18" x 24"

This art was featured in an article within The Hollywood Reporter, who presumably had mistaken it for a still from the film.  It remains one of my personal favorites, and I gave a print to animators Don Bluth and Gary Goldman.

While at Disney I rendered this into a 3D comp in After Effects. Go to my ANIMATION page to see it.

Harry Potter Parrish 2011

Harry Potter Parrish
2011
Acrylic on canvas
24" x 30"

I revisited my 2001 painting for a special gallery exhibit of Harry Potter artwork -- only this time the project took far, far longer than a week to finish! Inspiration taken from Annie Leibowitz photo of actor Daniel Radcliffe set against backdrop inspired by Maxfield Parrish's Ecstasy (1929).

You can also watch this video or visit this page about the making of the piece.

Adventure Runs in the Family
2012
Acrylics and pencil on board.
18" x 22"

A "family portrait" of sorts, inspired by Drew Struzan's LAST CRUSADE teaser poster. CLICK HERE to see how this artwork was made.

I later did an "INDIANA JONE5" mockup -- substituting the end "S" with a numeric "5" -- as my way of putting a little spin on a would-be teaser poster. (Click here)

Personal gift to Steven Spielberg, days before the opening of A.I..

Harry Potter Parrish
2001
Acrylic on cardboard
20"x28.5"

Sold to private collection. Inspiration taken from Annie Leibowitz photo of actor Daniel Radcliffe set against backdrop inspired by Maxfield Parrish's Ecstasy (1929). I reworked this in 2011.
"INDY IV" mock teaser poster
2007
Acrylic and colored pencil on board
18 " x 24"

Special 2 day drawing exercise, made when the film was first announced. I was trying to guess how the character would look aged 65...but why does everyone think that this was intended as a mean spirited joke? (For the record, here's the photo I used as reference.) I ended up giving this to the INDIANA JONES IV crew.
Shadows and Dust
2001
Watercolor on paper
18" x 24"

A wedding anniversary gift to the supervising sound editor of GLADIATOR, who married shortly after completing the Oscar-winning film. (Some trivia: My voice is actually featured within the film's opening battle sequence. "Archers, IGNITE!" )

Chamber of Secrets
2002
Acrylic and colored pencils on cardboard.
19.5" x 29.5"
Personal gift to young HARRY POTTER fan.
